Why is V = H/3[A1+A2+SQRT(A1*A2)] termed as approximate formula ?
It is the mathematically derived accurate formula !

Substituted Frame Method of analysis is an approximate method. When one has access to software, why should one go for any approximate method ?

You want to permit it to :

(1) move in X direction,
(2) rotate in XY plain as a pin joint &
(3) have no freedom for either rotation or ...

I think, SAFE can be used for designing pile cap. I don't know, if it can handle irregular loading as it is there in your case, as I am not familiar with SAFE.
