Dear Sefians,
For the past two years,I have been scanning and enjoying this site of
Structural Engineering.Interesting topics,interesting engineers all
exchanging their views and experiences,
asking questions and getting answers in a free atmosphere. It is a
wonderful experience for me.
I wish to express high appreciation to those pioneers,Dr.J.K.Jain,Miss
Alpa Sheth,Mr.Pankaj Gupta and others, who conceived and carried out
this idea to provide us all this a
wonderful platform. The common point of us all 5000 and odd
participants is our love for our subject of Structural Engineering.
I wish to express my regards and appreciation of prominent engineers
like Prof. ARC,Dr.NS,Rangarajan,Indrajeet
Barua,Vikramjeet,P.K.Mallick,Dr.Arul,N.Prabhakar,Suju,
G.Adhikari,Vivek Abhyankar,Kunal Kansara,Suraj and many others,who
have made this site a wonderful place of learning and knowledge.
There may have been a few instances of some negative ideas, but these
too are to be welcomed as then the positive ideas come to the
fore. However,I wish we should keep the negative ideas at bay.In one
place,Iread in the forum that the forum does not agree with the views
given therein.Has our forum only one mind?It is a forum of 5000 free
minds.Let
each one judge the issue in his own way. Please avoid these narrow
ideas.Freedom is the pre-condition of acquiring knowledge.Further,no
question is big or small. All questions and queries are
welcome.Learning is a two-way traffic. Those who question and those who
answer, they both learn. All this is a very constructive process.I wish
to know that,is there
any forum of this kind elsewhere in the world? We get
participants,sometimes,from Brazil and Italy too.
I urge all sefians to participate vigorously in the deliberations of
the forum to gain pure delight by reflecting on the subject of
Structural Engineering.
with all the best wishes and regards,
uhvaryani

Dear Er Varyani,
Many thanks for your posting and thanks for your appreciation. Participation by elders like you, Prof.Dr ARC, and Er Rangarajan , and others, gives us encouragement.
As you have rightly said, participating in discussions is a two-way learning process. I think that the quality of teachers also improves if they get good students, who ask intelligent questions.
As you have mentioned any question may not be silly. As I have written in my earlier posting, some inventions are due to the questioning mind of the inventors who were dare enough to question the status-quo ( for example, The Polaroid camera).
Reg. the presence of similar Forums, I am aware of another forum called Engineering Tips- however I am sure about it's strength and the interaction. Those interested may visit http://www.eng-tips.com/threadcategory.cfm?lev2=21.
Others may inform me about other similar forums.
Wishing you all the best. May God Bless You!
Regards
Subramanian

Tamso ma Jyotirgamay--- Please lead me from darkness to light
I think such a free exchange of opinions have never taken place, before,
anywhere and I too join Sh UH Varyani ji in congratulating the
Administrators( Prof SK Jain,Madam Alpa Sheth,Mr Pankaj Gupta )
who have conceievd the idea for discussions on a
much needed branch of engineering. Earlier, only source of
discussions were Workshops/ seminars(with 50-60 participants )
being attended by very few due to paucity of time.
This is a continuing education for engineers at desktop .The
success of this venture is evident from fast increasing
participations and as per wishes of Sh UH Varyani, the
Forum will definately live for ever.
regards

Respected Shri U>H.Varyani ji,
Thanks for your kind words and it is a blessing to get such a felicitation from an elderly engineer. It is just like that I started posting of what I learned and I learned a lot not only the technical knowledge but also some good way of moving with all age groups. It is really interesting to discuss with all sefians since all fingers are of not the same length. Need blessings from you, Er.Ibarua, Dr.N.S and Dr.Kunal and of course from all to continue as a member.
I pray the GOD to give a good health to continue as a member.
I pray the ALMIGHTY to get good health for you.

Sir Eng Uhvaryani Ji,
It brings a lot pleasure to all us have a support of a veteran engineer scanning & observing the deeds of the youth & the matured. It is also expected that more engineering fatherly personalities like you would help the nation by interacting with the working professionals donating the illumination of their individual experience from the engineering profession & the related coordination disciplines. The slide rule age & the IT age mixing shall really be extremely interesting so that the youth engineers are encouraged to be ready to face the future engineering struggles. Only engineers like you can explain to the youth how the engineer's life works in the reality? They should know that all is not green!
It is hoped that engineers shall continuously draw benefits by your presence
Thanks & Regards
Wish you all the best for you & your family

There is another very vibrant forum ( www.seaint.org ), which has been in existence for a very long time, and was in fact the inspiration for creating SEFI. Since most of the discussion on SEAINT group is on US codes, we felt the need to create something similar, but with reference to Indian codes, hence the creation of SEFI.

Respected Sir uhvaryani ji,
Thanks a lot indeed for your encouraging comments but I am very ordinary simple person. I consider myself fortunate to have your blessings.
My mail ID
suraj_engineer@yahoo.co.uk
430 Sector 21B, NCR Faridabad 121001 Bharat/India
M 9810610718 (usually I do not carry)
Presently, I have been staying at this address for the construction of my house due to the reason that I intended to control the structure myself. In year 2000, I had entrusted to one of my architect friend to supervise a small portion of 25 % on ground floor but he did not follow my design drawings sent from UAE & constructed his own way.
I worked for DDA for 6 years & overseas in gulf for about 18 years in many countries. I am thinking to go back as & when I find a good assignment.
Meanwhile, I have been working on a script entitled
Construction Method Statements based on my personal experience.
I have also written Civil Engineering Building Practice that was published in 1996 by CBS Publisher, Darya Ganj, New Delhi
The book was not given a good response except from some African countries.
Whenever, I find free time I utilise for writing work or similar nature of other works.
I have experienced both in the office engineering as well as site engineering,
My thoughts says that time is of essence & should be considered as a personal free invetment to be used by anyone.
I also have worked for the Applied Spiritual Numbers
I am now 54 & countdown shall start soon.
I think that the new generation is lucky to have at least an electronic medium to get quick solutions of their problems.
Thanks once again for the appreciation & encouragement
Thanks all SEFI members
