1. Heritage structures may not be protected by divine intervention against earthquakes, aprticularly if they are located in seismic sensitive areas. I know that some temples constructed by the Ahom kings in Shivasagar, Assam in the 15th-16th centuries A.D. saw some damage by the Great Assam Earthquake of 1950. I am trying to get some details of such damage.
2. Many architects and civil engineers I have talked to seem to be blissfully ignorant about hazardous structures and buildings. An example in point was Gujarat: the engineering community there seemed to be unaware of such dangers and the precautions that needed to be taken to make buildings seismic resistant.
3. Eduacation and training are the only panaceas to counter such ignorance.
