Dear All:

This Econference has had a dream run. It has broken all past records of post econferences on SEFI  in terms of number of postings and quality of the postings. We have had some of academia and industry's luminaries participating with so much gusto, alongside our very active and enlightened SEFI community.

We believe that this enconference has flagged some very important issues on Concrete Durability. It is unique in that we have heard the voices of all stakeholders of the construction industry- contractors, designers, concrete technologists, academics and young engineers. The cement and admixture industry was somewhat quiet. Nevertheless, this econference will go down in history as one of the landmark discussions in India on issues of concrete durability as seen from different perspectives. We hope it will serve as a a good base document for future revisions of the IS codes on cement and concrete.

We will all agree that a significant part of the success of this econference may be attributed to our two stellar moderators Mr Vijay Kulakarni and Dr N Subramanian who have dedicated themselves for 2 weeks to this econference. It has been a labour of love. They have responded to queries and comments with expert advice, painstakingly sourced out important papers on this issue and obtained permissions for their up load on the website, they have steered the conference to newer areas... Mr Vikramjeet has with just as much dedication and diligence, sifted through tens of emails each day and extracted the essence for us, so that within 10 odd emails any engineer can get an overview of the topics and points of view of the econference. This conference had taken up almost all of their past two weeks and alonwith the knowledge we have all added to ourselves on concrete durability, we also have learnt that in this day and age there are people such as Mr Kulkarni, Dr Subramanian and Mr. Vikramjeet who will donate so much of their precious time, so unconditionally, that we may benefit. To all three of you, Dear Sirs,  our most heartfelt salute. We feel humbled by your kindness and generosity.

Very importantly we must also thank Sanjeev and his team for their support. This has been a very difficult econference to administer. The site could not handle the load and crashed often. Sanjeev's pleas for more resources to augment our capacity could not be entertained simply because Sefi has no funds to do so. So he had to manage in what was available and also deal with my constant nagging of why the site was down or why there was such a delay in emails posting. Thanks for your patience.

The econference ofcourse belonged to the SEFI community who participated so enthusiastically. We have had industry experts who have given of their time and wisdom so wholeheartedly. We have also discovered some very bright sparks of India through this econference. We have had you asked very pertinent queries and contributing very enlightened comments. To all of you, my heartiest congratulations.

With warm regards,

Alpa Sheth

Thanks Alpa, Mr. Kulkarni and others specially Alok Bhowmik and Dr. Subrahmaniam for enlightening us with quality of concrete and even cement. Such a live and in-depth discussion should occur more frequently. Thanks.
