Dear sefians,

Is it possible to determine the type of sand is used in the mortar? Is there any laboratory test for the same ?

Thanks & regards,
Mohan

By Sieve Analyses you can determine the type of Sand.

COURSE SAND:-
Finness Modulus of coarse sand shall be less then 2.5 and shall not exceed 3.0

FINE SAND:-
The Fineness Modulus shall not exceed 1.0

Grading of Fine and Course Sand is given in IS 383

Thanks sir for your kind reply,

My query was that after setting or cement mortar it will be a composite material. I sit possible to disintegrate the ingredients by using some chemicals?

Hoping for an early reply,

With warm regards,

Mohan Naik

Dear Er.Mohan Naik,
It is possible to disintegrate the ingredients by using some chemicals to know cement content and type of sand in cement mortar by chemical analysis.Contect near by material testing lab. & refer below Links to know about chemical analysis of cement mortar:-

Dear Mohan Naik,
I hope there is no method to determine the type of sand used in the cast slab or mortar. But by Chemical analysis, it is possible to know the gradation of the sand and silt content by which it may be possible to know the type of sand used.
With regards,
Vithal Jadhav.
