Dear Sir

If we refer to IS 2062 we will find that Fe410 W A has a higher
percentage of Sulphur than Grade B as per the Ladle analysis.

Higher percentage of Sulphur results in inclusion of non metallic
manganese sulphide during steel making and casting when slab is formed
and rolled in plates and these are extended into thin planar type
inclusions. This results in lamellar tearing when large welding is
carried out such that fusion boundary of the weld running parallel to
the planar inclusion. This type of tearing occurs closely to the  heat
affected zone.

So utmost care should be taken during the detailing stage. That is why
when plate of thickness greater than 20mm is used for a particular
detail it is preferable to use Grade B to minimize the chance of
non-metallic inclusions and there by reducing the chance of lamellar
tearing.

I will appreciate some comments on my view points if I am wrong.
