Hi,

We are conducting research into active deployable tensegrity structures, focussing on bridges,  at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL). It is a relatively new subject and many engineers have not even heard about it... If you are interested, I am happy to answer your questions on this subject:

Tensegrity structure are indeed very elegant & light weight, however its very difficult to find cable related hardware in India. Who makes them & do they publish reliable values (based on tests) for them. Once we have that, tensegrities & cable structures is not a problem.

Regards

Dear Er Sinan Korkmaz,

Happy to note that you are doing research on deployable tensegrity structures, which are very exiting. Your web site is interesting. I am really amazed to note that such structures are used for bridges- although I am aware of their use in covering roofs- many papers are there in the Int. conferences on Space structures conducted in the Univ. of Surrey, UK, every 9 years and by IASS, every year.

I wish you success in your research. Hope that such tensile structures will replace the current compression dominated structures in future, resulting in economy and conserving natural resources.

Regards,
Subramanian

Tensegritic structures are having tension only members. They are specialized structures and the members are so arranged that only tension is present in the members. You can not do a thesis on this without proper guidance from your guide- read papers from Journal(Bulletin) of IASS, Int. Journal of Space Structures, etc.

Best wishes,
NS
