Dear Er.Vinod

The coarse aggregate is manufactured in different fractions - 40 to 20mm size, 20 to 10mm size and 10 to 6mm size.

These are single sized aggregates.

The single sized aggregates cannot be individually used in concrete. For concrete to be dense, the voids between large sized aggregates have to be suitably packed with smaller sized aggregates. Hence a combination of single sized aggregates is necessary.  Such combined aggregates are known as graded aggregates

The code gives gradation requirements for single sized aggregates as well as graded aggregates.

Normally for RCC works, we have to procure 20mm single sized aggregates and 10mm single sized aggregates and use suitable proportion of each fraction, such that the IS requirement for graded aggregate is satisfied.

With best wishes

Thank u very much ER.Srinivasan sir,

Then you mean first we need to check whether it O.K with 1st table or not..after that we need to check for 2nd table by making the gradation.

Dear Er.Vinod

Yes. In all quality consious sites, the single sized aggregates, as procured, are checked for gradation, and the mix ratio is determined so as to satisfy the IS requirements for graded aggregates

With best wishes
