Dear SEFIan,

Please refer the book "Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures" by A K Gupta, Galgotia publishers, wherein you can find a very similar design example worked out. Find out in similar lines  if your existing  slab is strong enough to sustain the stresses due to a 9" thick wall as proposed to be erected over it, in case you go for conventional brick masonry.
