Hi,
Does anyone have experience in the analysis and design of bubble deck slabs / voided floor systems?
I'm looking to gather some information for the analysis and design of such floor systems.
Can anyone please help in this regard? |

Long back I had designed a similar slab (size 80 feet x 40 feet )mosque in dubai.. I had used plastic moulds (in the shape of ice cubes and the slab after casting looked like an inverted ice trave in our freezer) the british company which supplied the moulds had some design tables. using the parameters of load and span i had done that. it was called 'waffle slab' at that time (way back in 1983. now i have no records.. you can try and search the data on internate

Hi Kajal
Please see the link below:
http://issuu.com/ekagroup/docs/cobiax_engineering_manual_2010_-_version_1_0-2010-
Though the manual is self explanatory, I am writing the steps to make it simpler for you:
Steps:
1.Based on your slab thickness and loads, you can choose the size of your voids (bubbles).
2. Make a finite element model (in SAFE or equivalent) and based on the chosen bubble size, apply property modifiers from the table.
3. Analyze the model and check shear stress contours.
4. In the regions where shear stresses exceed the limits prescribed in the handbook, don't provide the bubbles.
5. Optional value engineering can be done based on your or your senior's judgement, as suggested in the handbook.
A few suggestions:
1. Mark the areas where you do not want voids clearly on drawing with dimensions.
2. Spherical bubbles are more sturdy than flattened ones during pouring.
Good Luck

Thanks a lot.
Please can you give me your mobile number/email id.
We would like to discuss with you about this about your experience in bubble deck slabs.
BTW, wheer are you put up i.e. where you live/work?
Thanks

hi kajal,
i have done a project in the same field voided slab. i've casted and tested 3 nos. 3 * 3 m slab. the project work is tough considering experimental work. if you want you can post your queries to my mail id subramaniancivil39@gmail.com. you can design the slab as a normal with minor alterations.
good luck with your work
regards

Could any onybody suggest the vendors for manufacturing plastic bubbles for voided slabs in India? we wre looking for this option in one of our project.
