Hello sefians,

Some days ago I am just receive a soil test report, which geotechnical engineer suggested to design 14'-6'' depth isolated footing from EGL.

I know that shallow foundation can't be more than 9' below EGL,but I am not sure. Now how to design this type of footing. The project for 6 Storied residential building.

Please anyone suggest me something.

- Please post the essential pages of the soil report.
- Preferably use MKS system for dimensions.

The soil in the top layer looks very soft. Hence, you have to place the footing at around 4.50m depth.
Some of the solutions are :
1. Replace the loose / soft soil with good earth and apply good compaction and stabilisation.
2. Provide end bearing piles, if you get harder stratum at a little additional depth.
3. Think of providing a basement floor. This will endow you with  additional accommodation for parking etc., in addition to providing easy reach to the harder layer of soil to place the footings, having done the mass excavation.

Your definition of shallow footing surprises me. Where did you read this?
