I just know that CalculiX is free finite element program for three-dimensional linear and nonlinear structural calculations. Don't know much about it.

Dear Er,

To the best of my knowledge, Calculix plate/ shell elements are degenerate solid elements, which results in convergence difficulties.

The beam element also appears to be a degenerate solid element, with the result that it is limited to rectangular or elliptical cross sections.

Hope others could comment on this.
