Hi
in etabs i am getting slightly higher values of reinforcement in beams
for a moment of 184kNm for a 25X60 section i am getting in etabs 1145mm2 steel
but using sp16 i get only 1034mm2. this is the case for all beams
could any one explain this
it is not about the cover of reinforcement, grade of steel or concrete..i checked it
Rajesh

That may be due to torsion. For that design should be performed for equivalent bending moment

should we put something like 0.001 for torsion in property modifer for beams or just 1....and what about Iyy and Izz in property modifier for beams and columns

I really want to answer this but I need the following information:

1. What is your fck?
2. What is the fy of steel?
3. What is the cover to the center of tension steel, you've assumed?
4. What are the units of 25x60? mm, cm, inches...what?
5. Is 184 kNm factored or unfactored?
6. For what load combination is this moment?
7. Which SP-16 chart/table did you use?
8. Why SP-16?, why not check by hand?
9. Does this moment include torsional moment also?
10. What is the slab placement around this beam of yours?
11. Is there any point load coming on the beam?
12. What is the end condition of the beam?
13. Did you check the beam steel against the clauses of IS 13920?

Best,
Abhishek

Hi
i checked the results and the reason was torsion
I forgot to consider torsion in my manual check

I repeat my previous question which was not answered

should we put something like 0.001 for torsion in property modifer for beams or just 1....and what about Iyy and Izz in property modifier for beams and columns
