Dear Sirs,Under floor system 5.6 sub clause 5.6.2.3 it is mentioned that "At any storey , the minimum width of floor slab along any section after deduction of openings shall not be less than 5 m and the minimum width of the slab beyond an opening to edge shall not be less than 2m".
Can anyone clarify the above clause  also is it 5 sq m instead of 5 m.

With Regards
Santhosh Babu

I hope thbelow snapshot helps.

However further to this query, I would like to know if this applies to the staircase and lift cores also.
1.The lift and staircases are not parts of diaphragm and thus have to be considered as openings.
2. The code recommends to have shear walls (mostly staircase and lift cores) to be well distributed and thus the best location is at all 4 corners of the building.
3. Staircases have to be the edges of the building for fire safety and ventilation requirements.
4. Services shafts are also at the periphery of the building.
Thus it is generally not possible to have 2m slab outside the openings in these areas.
However all these areas are confined by beams or walls, so can this clause be ignored in these cases?
