Hi All,

Iam designing combined footing in staad using plate elements by assigning support conditions as elastic mat throughout the area of footing.

How to apply load on columns? Is is right if we apply loads of the respective column divided by area of footing as a plate pressure on the column? Please clarify me?

Thank you,
Ramu.

I think, your proposition is sensible. If we apply column loads as point loads, the analysis is likely to indicate unrealistic concentration of stresses / moments around the point loads. Please ensure that the plate size is so chosen that the column dimensions are multiples of the dimension of the plate, for compatibility in application of column load as UDL.

Thank you sir.

I have applied each of the column load as pressure(load/Area) and i have attached the staad file for your reference.

Iam little confused to apply the column load as UDL.

Please clarify me which is the correct method to apply loads on column.

Thank you.

Ramu.

I find your column size is 0.70m x 0.20m. Suppose your column load is 1400kN. Then the Plate UDL you have to apply over an area of 0.70m x 0.20m is 1400/(0.70*0.20) = 10000 kN/m2. I think, there is some confusion in your comprehension.

Thank you sir, understood clearly. After this analysis, we have to design the footing for maximum Mx & My from plate contours, and check for one way and two way shear. Please clarify me.

Thank you
Ramu.
