Respected Sefians,


As I am designing 40 x 150 M Industrial Shed with 2 sheds of 20 x 150 M having Gantry of 10 Tonne and 5 Tonne in both sheds.
As I analyzing in STAAD.PRO  the moments in column at base are more because they are untied in X direction.
Is there any sample of designing of Columns for Industrial shed made available ?
and how to analyse the same.
Is there expansion joints are required in 150 M direction or not ?
Hoping for positive and helpful comments.

I would love to answer this but the question formation is very confusing.

Q1. Which is your x-direction?

Q2. Gantry columns are always untied in one direction. The other direction of tying is brought into effect by the crane itself. But I still dont understand your query about base moments. What is your fixity condition at the bottom of  these columns?

Q3. There is no one way to design gantry columns. It depends on your assumptions. What about lateral load due to surge effect and and longitudinal load due to braking? How have you modelled that effect?

Q4. Are columns RCC or steel? Not clear. RCC pedestal and steel column or total RCC column?

Q5. Where is the project located?

Q6. Which code are you following? IS 800 or AISC/MBMA?

Q7. Where are the braces?

For  expansion joints you can use slotted holes in purlins. Thats all what is required. (Again you've not specified whether your roof is RCC or steel)

A 1 - Along 20 M is X-direction

A 2 - Columns are RCC considered fixed Condition witn wind load.

A 3 - Applied Point load on column with 10% of Load as Horizontal one.

A 4 - Total RCC Columns

A 5 - located in Nashik,Maharashtra

A 6 - IS 456

A 7 - Regarding braces require guidance for RCC Column Bracing needed or not ?


A 8 - Roof is truss structure.
