Dear sefians,
Should the thickness of a sheat wall be 20 times bar diameter of the beam rigidly connected to the shear wall from its lateral direction? When can this clause be ignored.

If orthogonal beam resting on shear wall is released at shear wall then there will be say 2 tor 8 MM bars at top.But IS 1893 says mnimum 2 % steel is required at top and bottom.Then this steel will give moment resisting capacity to beam and this MR will be transfered to the shear wall and so ths beam can not be released. Sir will you please tell us the clause of IS 1893 which specifies minimum 2% reinforcement in beams.

All columns have to be min 20 dia of beam bars but not Shear Walls, and the minimum thickness maybe selected based on your Project requirements and I893 provisions.

Dear Sir
As per my suggestion thickness is not more matter but outer element edge stress must be lesser than 0.2fck. and for that we have to increase thickness beyond our thinking limited thickness of wall

Please go through Clause 10.3.1 of IS 13920 and amendments to the Clause 9.1.3 of IS 13920 and you will know that shear walls must have width equal to 20 times bar diameter of the beams rigidly connected to the shear wall in the lateral direction.

Yes ,You are right, Amendment No. 1 September 2017 to the clause 9.1.3 (Page 13) of IS 13920:2016 , line 2 ---Insert , 'and Shear wall' before the word ,'Parallel', i.e Column and shear wall.

If column shall be provided to rest beam with satisfying minimum dimension as per clause 7.1.1 of IS 13920:2016 connected with shear wall then Cl. 9.1.3 can be ignored for shear wall. More comments requested from experts please.
