Dear Dr Subramanian

Many thanks for the link. It is trageic to see such episodes whether they occur in India or elsewhere. Apparently, Italian bridge management agency's track record is not very clean. If I'm not mistaken, this is 12th bridge failure in last 14-15 years in Italy. In 2017 March, there was a collapse of bridge which I strongly suspect collapsed due to failing of the half joint. In the current bridge too, I see some exposed half joints from the remainder of the standing structure. I've a research grant application in process in this area.

We in India should not surprised at all with such failures. I was in Delhi last week for a conference, and while transiting under the 'under construction' bridges I was seriously getting goose bumps out of fear due to the perception!

Kind regards
Kunal
