hello everyone

i have designed a strip footing with beam at center and i have a doubt in detailing of strip footing i.e whether the column bars should rest directly on footing mat or column bars should rest on beam reinforcement

please suggest

Hi Jagan,

Its always better to rest the column bars on the mat. Also, please ensure that column stirrups are provided throughout the beam depth.

Column bars should be embedded for a minimum length of ldc (Development length in compression) Anything in excess of this will always be fine.

The bar should be developed to transfer the forces to the footing. Refer Dr. N.subrmanian's Rcc book for more detail on developing  the rebar.
