Dear sefians,
We are designing R.C.C. structure of size 44.57mtr x 43.6 mtr. The building is only G+1. As per IS 456 Cl. 27.2, Normally structures exceeding 45 m in length are design with one or more expansion joints. But the structure is slightly less than 45 mtr. Is it necessary to provide expansion joint. Pls guide me.
For detail study and opinion plan is enclosed.

hi, vikash
your structure size is less than 45mts.so you can avoid expansion joint.

No expansion joint is required.
But if you want to design it for seismic,
in that case, as the shape is of convex form, you should divide it in such a way that no individual part of building is L, T shaped. Only "I" Shaped.
And you need to provide seismic joints.

Dear Er.Vikash
When each side of the building expands or contracts, it affects the two adjoining blocks leading to cracks
It is better to separate the building into four parts so that each part will expand and contract without affecting the other parts

Dear suniljpatil26 Sir,
Thanks for your views
The building is only G+1 do i need to design for seismic and provide seismic joint. Providing 4 seismic joints will increase the cost of the building.
Thanks
