dear all
we are designing a security wall of rcc frame of 3.0 mt height. While working out wind load as per is 875, i am having a doubt regarding use of risk coefficient (k1) factor for walls. I will be grateful if same can be clarified.
As per is 875 table 1, for building and structures with low hazard to life factor k1 for 47 m/sec is 0.9 where as factor k1 is 0.71 for temporary sheds and boundary walls. the mean design life for the above two cases is 25 years and 5 years. My doubt is we are designing a RCC security wall with approximate design life of 50 years. In this case, what value of factor K1, we should use .
thank you
regards

Er. Sharma,
IS 875 (Part-3) : 2015 has, in the Note under Table-1 , given a ready-made formula for the calculation of coefficient k1, that takes care of different periods of design life of structures, which is self explanatory. For a design life of 50 years and basic wind speed of 47 m/sec, k1 works out to 0.99 (you also please check).
