Good Noon SEFI members,

Is it possible to design an RCC beam for 15m span? I tried to design , I took depth of 1.125m. Is it enough or is there any other special consideration to take care?

If not RCC beam, is it possible to go for waffle slab?

If both are possible, which is cost effective. Long span RCC beam or Waffle Slab?

Please help!!

It is possible. We have done a beam of span 17.5m for the balcony of a community hall (shown in the picture). You can check the deflection of the beam by the criteria given in Cl: 23.2 & 24.1 of IS 456 : 2000. The attached Spreadsheet will be helpful for this. Also, you can provide slight upward camber for the beam, to counter the possible deflection.
