|

Hello sefians!
I had a doubt regarding designing of foundations by staad foundation advanced software. While designing a simple isolated Footing in that software, there's an option to choose type of depth :Fixed top or fixed bottom, to be given as input. What does it means and how it functions.
Secondly soil type to given as input , we have two options cohesive and cohesion less soil. For a same footing, I tried choosing both options, results didn't change for those two soil types. Does it makes any difference in design?
Thirdly, I'm having issues with modelling of eccentric column w.r.t to Footing. In manual of the software, it's given to model eccentric footing (column not at footing CG), offsets are to be input. I'm trying inputting offset values. Still it's not taking.
(Also tried inputting offset values in negative- as suggested in manual that comes with the software) . Still no help.
Please help me in getting these clarifications.
Thanks! |

Dear Er Aatif,
I haven't used STAAD Foundation Advanced, but I suppose this is used to tell the program whether you've modelled the column up to the top of the footing or the bottom.
I had to check a foundation designed using this program once, and I was shocked to see that the design didn't include a shear check at all.
Do take care when using this program. |
