i have a 14' wall that is 10" thick. i'm being told to apply elephant hoppers on the way to get concrete efficaciously level at the bottom without honey combs or it'll be poured none aci compliant. is this accurate beneath those occasions? i cannot locate the code. or can it simply be poured from a normal bucket and hopper from the top and accept obligation its accurately vibrated?

Just maintain 1.5 to 2 M drop of concrete, but maintain thickness of layers not to exceed 400 mm, vibrate & then pour another layer, better, do not pour more than 1 m at a time
Also, do not delay another meter height pour, so that cold joint is avoided |

While laying next layer fresh, vibrator nozzle must penetrate into previous layer for interlocking purpose
Temperature of concrete must be maintained within 5 to 32 deg C

As advised by Sri Suraj Singh Saheb , cold joint shall be avoided at any cost .
In now a days mechanised concreting with pumps , it is USUAL to continually concrete in layers with vibration simultaneously with full shuttering erected .
But in yesteryears long back concreting was done by gangs of labour with shuttering erected to 1.2 to 1.5 m and keep on shifting up next day.
For such height of wall , keyed construction joints at 1.0m -1.2m along heights were shown in drgs and limited shuttering( which used to shift up next day). If it is wall of water retaining structure , joints needs to be provided with water stop. Instruction for next pour , the next day were given as per IS 456 in regard to treatment of CONSTRUCTION JOINTS.
But times have changed with machinery and continuos pour in layers needs to be followed as advised .
