Dear Sefians,
A revision in the IS3370 code was published recently. A quick look at the clauses showed that only limit state design is now permitted. It is one of the major changes that the working stress method is removed from the code and fellow members should take note of. Maybe now some discussions can be had regarding the implications and changes which can be discussed for better countrywide implementation of the provisions of the revised code. Other senior members and experts in this regard may share their views and comments as they will be in a better position than me to discuss these in detail. My aim of posting this is to kick start a discussion on knowledge sharing on this topic. |

Not able to see /download this latest 2021 version of IS 3370 , may not comment.
However in all Codes like Steel IS 800 , IRC 21 on Bridges , IS 456 on generac RCC , Working Stress option is still available , and for water retaining structures Code IS 3370 LSM is already incorporated in 2009 version with Option for WSM also.
For water retaining structures , it is the cracking and rusting of reinforcement which need to be focussed and WSM provides low permissible tensile stresses in concrete as basis to avoid cracking as also reinforcement rusting. |
