RAIN WATER HARVESTING AS RESULT OF STORM WATER DISPOSAL IN BORE WELL - ( GROUND -RECHARGING )
There are three components in Recharge technique :
(I) RECHARGE WELL
(ii) BORE WELL FROM BOTTOM OF WELL TO 10M - 2OM
(iii) FILTERATION /SETTLING INLET CHAMBER
Design Criteria:
As per Delhi Jal Board guidelines (available at net) on INLINE Recharge of bore wells :
1.Rainfall of 22 mm /Hr to be taken (Delhi areas)
2. Infiltration capacity of Deep Bore well to be = 3 litres/sec , ie 10.8 m3/hr
As per CPWD MANUAL on RWH
3 . Run - off coefficient for Roof surfaces to be taken from Table given in Manual , Mostly 0.8 - 0.9 , averaging coeff = 0.85
Run off coefficient for ground surfaces = 0.5 -0.7 , averaging coeff = 0.6
Run off coeff for parks , lawns = 0.10 - 0.25
4. Loss Coefficient - for conveyance , evaporation , spillage losses , a coeff = 0.80 is recommended in Manual
Thus Capacity of Well shall be :
Volume of Rain water entering well in m3 =
For roof catchment : Vr = 0.85* 0.80* 0.022* (Catchment area m2)
Infiltration in deep bore well located at center to be deducted from above volume
Infiltration by deep bore Vb = 10.8 m3
Hence volume of recharge well required for RWH = Vr - Vb |

IMPORTANCE OF MEDITATION
(Previous postings )
Dear Abhyankar Vivek,
You are absolutely right in your posting on sefi about the importance of
meditation/concentration. Meditation improves the power of visulisation
beyond normal limits and enhances the aptitude .This is spiritual
phenomenon and is a free gift of nature from ALMIGHTY .
Sh UH VAryani in his autobiography has emphasised about it for the
benefit of one and all.
This is required for all humans irrespective of profession. However for designers
the power of Meditation/concentration can do wonders beyond imaginations.
regards
vikramjeet

MEDITATION FOR ENGINEERS
Structural Engineers are often expected to give Creative / Innovative solutions. But due to routine work pressures often they find it difficult to be Creative / Innovative. Scientifically it is proven that routine works reduce the creativity of a human being, which is a striking characteristic of 'RIGHT side of human Brain'. The left-half of the human brain is ANALYSIS center whereas the right half is CREATIVITY center. As engineer we do lot of mathematical works, due to which the Left brain progresses a lot, but in this war the Right brain suffers.
Many times it is said - "In Left nothing is Right and by the time we notice this in Right nothing is left"
Ideally Engineers shall have balance between Left and Right functions of the Brain (50% - 50%). In most Creative environment the 'Bita' waves generated, help the engineer to solve the difficult problems even with simplicity. To have this ideal situation, only the wave out is MEDITATION.
Meditation helps to increase the concentration of mind. The concentrated mind can produce more Innovative solution. The concentrated mind can solve difficult problem more easily, . . . concentrated mind is like 'burning the cotton ball or a paper' by concentrating sun rays with the help of magnifying class. In the book 'Life Story of Structural Engineer' by Shri U. H. Varyani, the author has explained the importance of concentration for structural designer, very nicely. The spiritual reading also helps to direct the mind towards CONCENTRATION. In the above book the author has explained how the spiritual reading has helped him.
The First Structural Engineer can be found from Indian Mythological literature - i.e Ramaayan, where the two persons, Nala and Neel where the Architects and Structural Engineers for the construction of first Bridge in the Sea. In the old Indian literature there were many Sadhus, who used to do MEDITATION and acquire knowledge. With this knowledge they used to foresee the problems and guide the people accordingly.
But now a days we observe that the inventions of 'MODERN SCIENCE and Technology' has ruined this culture. For simple beams the engineers depend on the Software programs. The ability to PREDICT the structural behaviors is getting reduced day by day. In such situation the only and only one solution is 'MEDITATION'.

Some light poetry , but telling the reality of Structural Engg profession :-
Mera jaam chhuney walay , Tera haath jal naa jaaye
O Dear fellow professional , let not touch my CUP , it may burn your hand
Since :
Merray ashk bhi hein ismay , yeh sharaab ubal na jaaye
My tears ( I.e sweat of brain) are there in this wine (design work) which may boil .
Just found similarity of str engg profession with this couplet which fits properly with our work .
Structural engineers in India are still unsung heroes and mostly forgotten professionals . |

|

Dear Engineers
As Er.Vikramji pointed out the (Any) drawings are the way of communication between the Architect and the feild Engineers and Designers anf the Site Enginners/Forman etc.
It should be simple and always use diffrent colour to identify the dia of rods along with discription of dia and number of rods.
Use the crossection of beams and sectional plan for slab rods
Use crossection for beams along with longitudinal elecation for the distibution of stripps spacing etc
Clearly indicate the slab rods in bottom as continous line and topm rods as dash lines.
May be it requires little time to prepare but error free and feild people can easily follow and th eend results are many.
Combersome tabulation leads time consuming and feild may commit errors.
Last two decades I am issuing structural drawings and in feild they never calle for clarification. and worthy to mention is the barbender with one or two years experience also easily following. |

Dear Er Arunachalam ,
It is really satisfying to note that you as a committed structural engineer ,take pains to provide proper detailing in structural drgs , easily read at site . The outcome of laborious analysis , str calculations in form of details needs to be dealt the way you mentioned in your post.
Also Tabular form of framing / continuous beams reinf details shall be DISCOURAGED as it not only increases the work load of site engineers , but chances of mistakes are many .
After all ,if work is not executed properly for want of ready details( e.g. L sec views of beams ) , the design efforts go in vain.
For slabs reinf details , the reinf is shown on plan with bottom bars dotted and top bars with firm lines , as rightly followed by you.
DETAILS OF STRUCTURE COMPONENTS IN DRGS ARE THE END PRODUCT OF RIGOROUS ANALYSIS AND LABORIOUS DESIGN CALCULATIONS - STR DETAILS NEED TO BE SITE FRIENDLY. |

New year greetings to all sefi members.(Belated)
Take precautions , as OMI is spreading but OMI along with Delta is highly dangerous as per reports .
May ALMIGHTY SAVE HIS CREATION |
