Dear All,

Structural Engineering Legend Mahendra Raj passed away this morning. May his soul rest in peace.
His contribution to the World of Structures in Post-Independence India has been phenomenal. He was also a very charming personality and I would always seek opportunities to meet him when in Delhi. We will all miss him.

Let me share a piece I had written a few years ago on Er. Mahendra Raj and his book.

Sad to hear passing away of a legend of structural /civil engg.

Mahendra Raj served the profession for more than seven decades. I personally met him during 2007 at his Jangpura , N delhi office.

A Book named Structures of Mahendra Raj penned by his son tells about his excellence in design and analysis as also visualisation depth on structures.

Definitely loss to engg fraternity.

It's indeed a sad feel to hear about passage of great Structural Engineer, Shri Mahendra Raj sir. His book on his works attracted several budding professionals. His standing structures like Pragati Maidan and more speak about his contribution. I did not get an opportunity to meet him in person, but from his book and works could imagine his personality...

With my deepest condolences to his family.

Dear Er Alpa

I also heard that one of India's greatest Structural Engineers Er Mahendra Raj passed away. May his soul be blessed in heaven.  He designed the first skyscraper in India, with shear walls and designed several amazing structures. He was also responsible for starting several associations, especially for consulting engineers. Unfortunately he did not see the Engineers Bill pass in the Parliament during his life term.

I had contacted him a few months ago for writing a Gem article about him. He sent the details promptly.

Warm regards
Subramanian

Great loss to engineering community & to nation & to world
Such long serving engineers are rarely available, who had seen all development phases
I remember to hear him at ECI pofessionalisation of Engineers seminar in 2003
But, departing from earth is a part of life!
