Greetings!
The Draft Indian Standard "Criteria for Structural Safety of Tall Concrete Buildings" (First Revision of IS 16700- 2016) has been published for wide circulation by Bureau of Indian Standards.
To understand and discuss the proposed revisions in the code, SEFI is pleased to announce a Webinar on this topic. The Webinar will be held on Saturday, August 6 2022 at 11 am IST. The duration of the webinar shall be 1.5 hours.
The objective of the Webinar is to acquaint the user of the code with the underpinning rationale and studies that have informed the revisions. The webinar will also discuss the possible effects of the revisions on design of tall concrete buildings. The webinar will also address the doubts and queries regarding the revisions.
The speakers at the webinar are Prof CVR Murty, Er. Alpa Sheth, Er. Anil Hira and Er. Ranjith Chandunni. All the speakers are members of the code drafting committee of IS 16700.
The webinar is free. Registration, however, is mandatory. Interested persons may register at https://www.sefindia.org/webinar

I will be posting comments on the draft code. Hopefully members of committee will respond. Here is the first comment :
Clause 1.2 may please be redrafted as follows :
The prescriptive requirements mentioned in this standard shall be used for proportioning buildings located in the near-field of seismogenic faults.
NOTE For the purpose of this standard, near-field is taken as 10 km from the surface projection of a seismogenic fault with the exceptions that faults with estimated slip rate less than 1 mm per year shall not be considered in determining whether a site is a near-fault site and the surface projection used in the determination of near-fault site classification shall not include portions of the fault at depths of 10 km or greater.
Reason for the proposed change :
The standard should provide prescriptive methods for buildings located in the near field of seismogenic faults. Portions of this clause overlapping Cl. 1.7 are deleted. Terminology and exceptions in the NOTE are in line with FEMA 2020 recommendations.

1 In many foreign codes flat slabs are allowed upto height of 15 m. IS is silent2 PT Beams support floating columns. Shall be avoided3 code is silent about stringer beams4 Column beam joints are subjected to fatigue during earthquake.
