Dear SEFIans:

This is a q. to bridge engineers. Is it possible for a 20 year old bridge to buckle in extreme heat? Apparently that's what happened in the city of Quanzhou in southern China's Fujian province.

Are there lessons to be learnt for design and construction of bridges in India?  Climate change will affect every country some sooner than others, so we need to heed the warning signs...
