After searching on net, not much is said about wind speed/velocity on such structures generally constructed for short durations  like Marriage Pandaals,  Pooja Pandaals etc.

As per paper by M/s S K Ghosh and Associates  :-

In absence of any specific guidelines on such structures,, engineers look to ASCE 37 regarding reduction in wind speeds given in ASCE 7 for temporary constructions :

The reduction factors are as given here in believe
Less than six weeks -  Reduction factor 0.75
6 weeks to one year -   0.8
One yr to two yrs  -    0.85
Two yrs to Five yrs -  0.90

Taking wind speed reduction factor of 0.75
The net effect on wind pressure = 0.75^2= 0.56


Flexible cladd  structures can be taken on this corollary.

I thank you for the useful information.

According to IS:875, for temporary sheds, formwork, etc., the k1 factor varies from 0.82 for V = 33 m/sec to 0.67 for V = 55 m/sec

The design life of temporary structures is taken as 5 years

IS code is silent on flexible clad structures like tent pandals ,,



Also it is silent for  very temporary structures having  life less than 5 yrs

Paper by M/s SK Ghosh and associates refer to further reduction of wind speeds in light of ASCE 37  ,, which sounds logical,

Hope IS wind code may address both issues in their future endeavours.

Rigid cladding vs Flexible cladding

Life l 6 months, one yr, two yrs, etc  (I.e Less than five yrs)  in line with ASCE 37
