Dear All,

Please give input on using XLPE as roof insulation.
Whether XLPE is better than Glass wool insulation ?
Whether XLPE is fire resistant ?

Have experience of bubble type roof insulation with Aluminum foil covering underneath AC /Metro sheets,,

But XLPE roof insulation is superior as checked from google.
As per some sites,, it is heat resistant upto 90 degree temp. .
It is also used in power cables as inner covering.

Do not have experience of it's use and request other members to deliberate.

XLPE provides good thermal insulation (Though Glass wool has better thermal resistance), reducing heat transfer between the roof and the interior.

Unlike glass wool, which can absorb moisture and lose insulation properties, XLPE is highly moisture-resistant.

XLPE is quite durable, resistant to wear, tear, and compression over time, and can handle fluctuations in temperature and environmental conditions.

XLPE is easier to handle. XLPE is also lighter and can be easier to install.

Glass wool is generally more cost-effective compared to XLPE, especially for large-scale projects.

XLPE is generally not highly fire-resistant. It can burn and emit toxic fumes when exposed to flames. Standard glass wool, on the other hand, is naturally fire-resistant as it is made from glass fibers, which do not burn.  However, there are fire-retardant variants of XLPE available, which might offer improved fire resistance.

As a thermal insulation in roof treatment, XLPE may be used and I suggest to interact with agencies dealing with roof thermal and water proofing requirements.

XLPE is used extensively in electrical cable as insulation material and for fire safe cables, a separate requirement is mentioned to make it fire safe.

Best Wishes,

Dear Sir,
If we enclose Glasswool in airtight plastic covers, problem of moisture ingress will be eliminated. In such cases, Glasswool would be the more appropriate choice in terms of cost and insulation effectiveness IMHO.

Yours sincerely
