Postings on Sefi / Queries / Views

Of late,, it is seen that postings are very few,,

It was a time from 2003 , when it started by our great  Engineers Madam Alpa sheth,, Sri Pankaj Gupta and others,, the postings were huge with experts giving their opinions,,

Till 2015 or so,, it was very vibrant forum,, but may be with advent of Other forums as also Social media,, the engineers were diverted to other outlets,, especially Indian Engineers.

Other reason could be pressing work demands to Structural engineers,, with almost no time to see / read.

Third reason,, might be,  total dependency on tools,, ie Softwares for ready available analysis snd design features.

Thinking about structure behaviour,, visualisation of Structures in different loading conditions,  sll have become thing of past,, and, .

Any how SHOW MUST GO ON

BUT ADMIRE Engg  Sri Suraj Singh Saheb,, despite poor health  ,  still active,, and give at least one pist msg on sefi,,

I am sharing "Resource Book Theory of Reinforced Concrete Structures"

During Manual Design Era till late Nineties :-

The Analysis of Structures were done using Manual design calculations,, with aid of Tables,, Charts,, coefficients,  Formulae and complex problems were also solved.

Frame Analysis for Gravity loads was carried out using Kani's Method / more simplified Two cycle method ,, For Horizontal loads - Use of Portal Method for small buildings, but Kani's Method for high rise was adopted. Horizontal load analysis by Gasper Kani Method was more time consuming since joint balancing was achieved in about 8 to 10 cycles.

Design Engineers have to study much more through books, specialist Literature,, and Journals and have to visit Libraries
and their acquired knowledge, in this process,, becomes a great boon in their career.

BUT NOW AVAILABILITY OF SOFTWARE S, CADD FACILITIES, THOUGH EASED THE TASK OF DESIGN ENGINEERS,, BUT STILL IT IS NOT A ROSY SCENARIO FOR THEM,, . Structure behaviour / visualisation is needed to be understood  to provide perfect Modelling plus interpretation of output / Results properly. SOFTWARES ALSO work out REINFORCEMENTS,, but DETAILING NEEDS EXPERIENCE .

It was said during Manual Era :-

ANALYSIS IS UNIVERSAL
DESIGN IS NATIONAL
DETAILING IS PERSONAL

but One more Rider is now added :-

MODELLING NEEDS TO BE IDEAL

THOSE DESIGNERS WHO ADOPT DUAL PATH ( SOFTWARES + SELF CHECK MANUAL) WOULD TOUCH HEIGHTS IN STRUCTURAL FIELD , AND THOSE IN ADDITION, HAVING DRAFTING CAPABILITIES WOULD ENHANCE THEIR HORIZON OF VISUALISATION .
