Hi sefians,
Can we provide 100mm wide beams to support 100mm thick walls of external cladding, ducts etc..?

100 wide beam to support 100 thk rcc wall

Needs to see lateral instability,, Slenderness limits for beams are given in IS 456.

Only two nos bars csn be provided,, one at top and one at bottom,,

Stirruos be in form of U hook closed at top

But Slenderness to be seen first

If you can provide 150 wide beam,, it will be more satisfying .

Two plus two bars can be provided with closed stirrups.

One side (outer face with wall) can be flushed and other side have 50 mm khaska ( offset) . Small taper can be provided to hide.

If the wall is RCC, can't  we consider it as  a very deep beam ?

Case 1 If rcc wall as cladding is a cantilevered overhang
The reinforcement needs to be anchored inside and regular floor beams would be available at Floor beams level only . There,, wall can not be taken as beam and beam Depth anchored inside will be the beam.

Case2 - if Rcc wall is supported at two ends by cross direction beams,, then No problem and wall itself can act as deep beam,, but check detailing and extra bars can be provided at bottom.

Kindly provide drawing having plan and section and clear idea of load path so we can comment of this situation. or provide the sketch for better understanding the situation.
