Dear Engineers,
How to design corners of sunshade?
Diagonal span at corner of 120cm long sunshade will be 170cm. Do the practice of Simply providing extra diagonal bars @ top enough for higher spans like this? or design for the diagonal span itself? Is limiting the L/d ratio to 7 (of course by the help of modification factors) sufficient to satisfy deflection criteria in cases like this with no back span.

Corner Area of Sunshades

Partly it is taken care by diagonal bars provision as EXTRA BARS EXTENDING IN BEAM as chimtaa.

Part load is transferred to adjoining  straight chhajja ,, hence it is better to provide extra bars  2 nos at both orthogonal directions plus fan shaped extra diagonal bars (3 nos) .

Kindly provide drawing having plan and section and clear idea of load path so we can comment of this situation. or provide the sketch for better understanding the situation.


120 cm is 1200 mm (approx. 4 feet), It is not higher span...
