Dear Sir/Madam,
Greetings !
Periodically, you have been kept apprised by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) regarding its efforts towards ensuring safety and sustainability in buildings and the built environment in the country, particularly through updates in the form of new standards and revisions. As you are aware, the information contained in the various Indian Standards on the above theme has been cogently brought out in the form of a single document namely the National Building Code of India (NBC). The NBC, in turn through its 13 Parts having 33 chapters serves as the epitome for reference and use, in the form of the national document providing guidelines for regulating building construction activities, and a Model Code for adoption by all agencies be it the government or private.
As you are aware, NBC mainly contains administrative regulations, development control rules and general building requirements; fire safety requirements; stipulations regarding materials, structural design and construction (including safety in construction); building services; plumbing services; landscaping and outdoor display structures; approach to sustainability; and asset and facility management. The provisions of NBC thus give all the information required by the architect, engineer, structural engineer, geotechnical engineer, construction engineer, services engineer and other professionals from the early stages of planning to translate the building onto terra firma.
A) As part of the ongoing exercise of revision of the NBC, we are glad to inform you that various chapters have reached the wide circulation stage and are being opened out for public commenting. This public consultation stage is with a view to inviting any views particularly difficulties which you are likely to experience in your business or profession if the wide circulation drafts are finally adopted as the special publication (SP), namely the revised NBC. Accordingly, with this email, the following chapters are shared herewith for your information and comments, if any:
