Dear Er Himan,

Site engineer's job is as important as design engineer's job. Many times designer may not give importance to constructability, and it is site engineer's job to indicate them to the design engineer and correct the drawings. In addition to carrying out the construction  as per the designer's drawings (should have a good knowledge on property of concrete and steel rebars, bond length, construction joints, shrinkage and creep of concrete, mixing and consolidation of concrete, curing methods, water and damp proofing,  surveying, quantity estimation, rate analysis, value engineering, chemical and mineral admixtures, quality control, construction machineries and techniques, water supply and drainage, energy management, etc., in addition to labour management) the site engineer has to conduct tests on steel and concrete for quality and resolve any construction related issues. Hence you may expect questions in all the above areas.

Best wishes,
NS

1       Site Engineer & Resident Engineer are equal level positions
Site engineer works for contractor
Resident engineer works for engineer for employer/client
Site engineer is responsible for contract works prosecution/execution
Resident engineer is responsible for supervision for works for engineer/client<xml><o></o>

2       Site engineer has to move site works in line to project schedule & encounter all delaying forces<o></o>

3       Site engineer has to submit all items for permanent works to resident engineer/engineer for approval prior to placing orders<o></o>

4       Site engineer has to chart out all contract details technical & contractual to understand scope of works & various methods to carry out works successfully<o></o>

5       Site engineer has to ensure that no resources available are wasted that includes workforce, equipment & construction materials<o></o>

6       Site engineer has to ensure that all activities move with adequate safety provision<o></o>

7       Thorough understanding of specification both general & project are too significant to be well gripped<o></o>

8       Time, cost & quality are three management elements working over all other knowledge areas that make a site work successfully<o></o>

9       Knowledge areas could be risk factors, cost escalation, schedule controls, alternative proposals, site controls, working design controls, staff controls, coordination, communication etc<o></o>

10    Site engineer should understand all such requirements though basically, project engineer & project manager would deal with them from time to time<o></o>

11    Site engineer should make up a site line management team including foreman/supervisor/general foreman etc in addition to workforce<o></o>

12    Site engineer has to ensure setting out both vertical & horizontal control<o></o>

13    Site engineer should have very good relations with interdisciplinary engineers pertinent all other engineers<o></o>

14    Site engineer should understand that job requires delivery of work to client within cost, within good quality & within contract time<o></o>

15    Extraction of works from buildup team is not easy & hard work is required particularly at beginning of careers<o></o>

16    When, all know that site engineer is inexperienced, every lowest level worker tries to rag site engineer of knowledge & when site engineer tries to avoid answer stating that shall tell later, it is understood that engineer does not know<o></o>

17    Be careful<o></o>

<o> </o>
