Er.Vijay R Patil ,

Please find attached some pdfs in which some company catalogs and brouchers are attached. These will be explaining many technical notes.

In addition need to refer some good books already listed in the General discussion forum.

These catalogs are not an advertisement but to know further details more than in the test books.

T.RangaRajan.

Dear Er Vijay,

The following two papers provide lot of info on Dampers:
Mitigation of motions of tall buildings with specific examples of Recent applications authored by Prof. Kareem et al. of the Univ. Of Notre Dame, published in Wind and structures, Vol. 2, No.3, 1999, pp. 201-251 is available at

http://www.nd.edu/~nathaz/journals/%281999%29Mitigation_of_motions_of_tall_buildings_with_specific_examples_of_recent_applications%28WAS%29.pdf

This paper also has a number of references.

Another recent and notable paper is by Symans et al. Energy Dissipation Systems for seismic applications: Current practice and Recent developments, Journal of Structural Engg., ASCE, Jan. 2008, pp.3-21. This paper also has numerous references.

Best wishes,

Dear Er. Vijay,

To my knowledge as far as controlling wind-induced response of buildings is concerned, the following dampers were used in the past: tuned mass damper (TMD), tuned liquid column damper (TLCD), tuned sloshing damper (TSD), Impact damper. For instance, Taipei 101 in Taiwan has Tuned Mass Damper at the top. Many buildings in New York are getting either TMD or TLCD/TSD. As far as I know we are yet to get a damper of this size in India, but soon some buildings in India will get dampers.
