Dear Sir,

We get,
Gross SBC = Net SBC + Soil density*h

For greater depth Gross SBC will be much more.

Suppose,

Net SBC = 100 KN/m2

Then at 3m,  Gross SBC = 100+18*3= 154 KN/m2

that is approximately more than 50%.

as depth increases this percentages also increases.

Is it okay to consider Gross SBC for pressure check ??

Hi Pravin Shirsath,

Yes, You can consider the Gross SBC and compare with the calculated Gross Pressures. In fact this is method followed by the most.

While calculating pressures you shall include the weights of Back filled soil & self weight of footing.

A small illustration in general terms on the calculation of size of isolated footing using Net SBC and Gross SBC. This is for a square footing with concentric vertical load (no BM). The ground water table effect is not considered. This is just for illustration to show that we get the same size of footing by adopting both the SBCs  operated with appropriate loads.
