Dear sefians,
> Many times we have seen dam photographs of “sardar sarovar dam”.
> I have attached few images of DAM.
> I believe none of us had identified a very potential issue of stretching of Gate installation above crest level of spillway because of political issues.
> I have minutely examine the dam images during overflow condition. What I have seen is the reinforcements which are perhaps of pedestals of GATE is all the time exposed to the moisture. Even in the overflow condition they are directly in contact with water.
> Pedestal of gate is a very precious component of any DAM and their reinforcements are the life of Gate.
> If such conditions is prolonging, it could affect the strength of gate which is going to hold the upstream water during monsoon.
> My opinion is we have to start the healthy discussions and we have to raise our concerns to the Dam authorities ASAP to save probable Accidents might occur due to poor strength of Gate after installation.

Hello Kamal,
Well kamal i absolutely agree with you. I think a right approach will be that as a Sefi-Forum we should come up with some practical solutions and in interest of National Infrastructure, we should submit a report to the agency. This may be preliminary report with details of action required to be taken, effects of delay -structural, environmental, financial along with a rough time scale.
Best Regards,
Dr. Korde Chaaruchandra

Dear Er. Kamal,
Thank you for publishing the conditions possibly leading to unsafe structure. There are many ways to go for this correction.
There are engineers and experts on the forum working in public institutions at bureaucratic, academic and research level who may get heard quickly by the responsible institution.
This is an excellent opportunity for proactive actions and increasing the service life of public asset.
Thank you.
