Subject: [SEFI] Future of Structural Engineering

Dear Sefians, I have been following the contributions of several engineers in this e-conference.
One engineer has expressed that future of Structural Engineering is dark.I am not in agreement with this view.Structural Engineering is a lovely subject and we all structural engineers just love it.This love was planted in us by our learned professors in our colleges of study. Then we chose to seek service/practice in this line and started to design structures. This gave us immense joy. Please, let us all understand that we are in this line because of the joy of designing structures. We are hooked to this line.
Money part(i.e our fees) is important and it will come to us.We shall get what we deserve. We should concentrate on doing our job well.We should not become commercial. All professions like law, medicine, engineering are progressively coming
under commercialism. This fact has brought down value of all professionals in our society.Country has spent a lot on our education and we should do our work professionally,to pay back our debt to our country.
There is a talk of inadequacy of our fresh engineers. We should remember our own time too, when we were fresh engineers. We were not immediately effective in our work and our seniors guided us well.It does not take much time to come up to level with others.Basically,we all are engineers, seniors or juniors. It is only a question of time, when fresh engineers will prove useful and effective.
Finally,Civil/Structural Engineering will remain relevant for all time. The future of Structural Engineering is bright and we should take steps to make it more bright.
with best wishes and regards,
uhvaryani
