Dear all,
I am trying to design open foundation for 55/60 m PSC Box Girder Superstructure. The foundation thickness to satisfy shear criteria is coming out to be about 2.0 m thick (about 8.5X8.5 m dimesions). I would like to reduce the thickness to about 1.5 m and provide shear reinforcement in footing.
I have already calculated the required shear reinforcement (about 20L-12dia@400 c/c) at distance d from edge of column. How to provide the reinforcement: in the form of closed stirrups throughout the footing or is to possible to provide the reinforcement as links/hooks?
The shear reinforcement has to carry the shear force in both direction of the footing. How to ensure that the links/hooks (if provided) will carry shear from both x-x and y-y direction.
Thanks for your help.

Dear ER Biswa Balla
I think you have to provide the shear reinforcement on both the side. If the structure falls in the seismic zone provide closed stirrup is desirable. At least taking three main reinforcement in a closed loop provide the shear upto the face of column. |
