Dear all,

I am involved in designing villa township projects for my company with over 300+ villas, I was trying to do some value engineering to make the structures more economical but safe at the same time any pointers regarding this wil be appreciated . All the villas are G+1 structures mainly with a small head room on the second floor. The villas were designed all these days to withstand lateral forces, My question here is it crucial for the structures to be designed for seismic and wind forces?. to save the huge consumption of steel.
The location is in bengaluru lying in seismic zone 2 belt with mild exposure conditions.

Dear Engineer, the earth quake forces will  not be a critical load case. Have a check, hope you will find that gravity load going to be critical one

Thank you for your response, I actually find that when i am including the seismic design load cases the value of steel quantities is almost upto three times in most of the members than it is for gravity loading. so can i completely eliminate seismic design or is it a requisite to consider seismic design as per indian standards.
