Er Ramu,
Don't you have the habit of referring standard text books for designs ? Almost all text books on RCC design will cover design of RCC retaining walls while soil mechanics books will cover design of masonry retaining walls.
For any retaining wall, the stability check is the first step and it is as important as structural design. This check may not be possible in STAAD. Due to the difficulty in assigning the supports to retaining walls (soil spring support can be assigned though), the structural analysis & design using STAAD is complex , I think. Hence, manual analysis & design, which is not as laborious as design of building frames, is prefarable.

Dear Jayakumar sir,
Thank you for your reply.
I do refer text books but still i just wanted to know how they are applying in actual field. Now i can understand clearly that manual design of retaining wall is much better compared to softwares.
Thank you once again.
Ramu.

You are welcome, Er.Ramu.... While most of the advanced RCC Design books cover the design of cantilever / conterfort RCC retaining walls, the book "Brick and Reinforced Brick Structures" by Dayaratnam (Oxford & IBH) covers in detail the design of masonry retaining walls, including seismicity & stress checks.
Best wishes,
E S Jayakumar

Further to the above, please see the attached article on the optimum design of RCC retaining walls. This includes the new concept of "Relieving Platforms", to achieve economy.
