'Performance Based Design' & 'Provisions of Tall Building code IS 16700:2017'

Friday 23rd March, 18 & Saturday 24th March, 18 @ 9:30a.m. to 6:00p.m.
at CIRCOT Auditorium, Matunga, Mumbai.

Buildings all over India are reaching new heights. All the Mega cities like Mumbai, Kolkatta, Delhi, Chennai are talking about super tall structures with 100 storeys and more, whereas, 50 to 60 storied buildings are becoming more than common.

At this juncture Tall building code IS16700:2017 is introduced. This code covers all the buildings above 50 m  say 15 storeyed.  In view of contents of the code, we need to relook at all the design parameters like- Different Types of Structural Systems and their limitations, Aspect Ratio, Definition of Length, Width and Height of buildings, Slenderness Limits, Limitations related to opening in slabs and design of non-structural members.

We also need to revisit the codal provisions set in latest revisions of IS 1893 & IS 13920 on this background.
(Codal Provisions related to Wind Loads will be dealt in an independent workshop)
Although this code is 'Prescriptive' in nature, it recommends Performance Based Design approach for all the code exceeding buildings which do not fit into the requirements of this code. Hence, it is very much essential to understand the basics of Performance Based Design.
