Dear All,

Generally design of POT/PTFE bearings are done by manufacturer of bearing. As a structural engineer, you have to submit only design data to vendor. Followings are required design data from the vendor.

(1) Max vertical force (service condition only)
(2) Min Vertical force
(3) Maximum translation (In case of free bearing)
(4) Maximum rotation

Now my question is, what is the need of providing Min Vertical force if i am ensuring no tension reaction in any of the bearing?

As per IRC:83 Part III -2002 Cl 926.2.3.3 minimum stress in elastic pad should be 5 Mpa. But why minimum stress limitation is provided in the code?

There is one more clause 926.1.4 which is providing upper and lower bound for horizontal force 25% and 10% of vertical force respectively.

Please enlighten concept behind this clauses. For what purpose this clauses are provided in the code.

Thank You
