Dear All,
How to find the unit weight of a masonry wall, if we already have the density of bricks used. How can we take the weight of mortar and plastering used in it?
I was using, 1800 or 2000 Kg/m3 for design purpose, in case of conventional masonry. But now , in our projects, conventional masorny is replaced with Porotherm Bricks, which haves the density of 782Kg/m3.
I been so curious about finding an EASY way to calculate the unit weight of masonry, where ever the density of bricks used changes frequently through out the projects.

I enclose the manuscript of the method to calculate the density of plastered brick wall, as an illustration. You can make your own calculation based on this principle.

The above can be worked out in a simpler method by considering a single brick also.
Volume of one bare brick = 0.40x0.20x0.20 = 0.016m3
Effective volume of one brick with 10mm thick mortar joints with either faces plastered = 0.41x0.20x0.21 + 0.41x0.21x0.025 = 0.0194m3
Volume of mortar + plaster = 0.0194-0.016 = 0.0034m3.
Density of masonry = (0.016x780 + 0.0034x2200) / 0.0194 = 1029 kg/m3.
