Dear Sefians,
I am designing the pipe sleeper which has L=1200, W= 400 and founding depth, H= 2000 mm.So this upper portion of sleeper is classified as column (H>3W).
So shall i use the below clause for minimum reinf as 0.005Ag instead of 0.01 Ag and whether this provision is not applicable for both building and non building structures located in seismic design category D and Site class D?
cl. 10.3.1.2 of ACI 318-14 states as follow as
For columns with cross sections larger than required by considerations of loading, it shall be permitted to base grossarea considered, required reinforcement, and design strength on a reduced effective area, not less than one-half thetotal area.
"This provision shall not apply to columns in special moment frames or columns not part of the seismic force-resisting system required to be designed in accordance with Chapter 18".
Please clarify the above and provide reference for the same.
Thanks in advance
Regards,
Anbalagan A
