Structural design features of one of the tallest structure in the world: Lotte World Tower, South Korea
The height of the building is 555 m. It has 123 upper and 6 basement floors. It is mixed-use building.
Structural System (LLRS): It includes an RC central core surrounded by 8 RC mega columns and a set of 2 steel outriggers (at 39th & 72th floors) and 2 steel belt trusses (at 72nd & 104th floors).
Most of the floor system is made of steel beams with deck slabs. However, some of the floors include RC slab and flat slab.
The structure is design to withstand wind speed of 75m/s. Wind tunnels tests were performed to ensure building stability under high wind conditions.
It is designed for earthquakes of a 9.0 magnitude on the Richter scale. A linear elastic time-history analyse were conducted. The wind load governs the design of the building.
The soil under the foundation is composed of soft rocks and hard rocks. To prevent the settlement (site contains fault zones and shear zones) ground strengthening 1 m dia piles were installed. Then 6.5 m thick mat foundation was used as a foundation system.
