Why is V = H/3[A1+A2+SQRT(A1*A2)] termed as approximate formula ?
It is the mathematically derived accurate formula !

'Approximate' because its result does not match exactly with the accurate formula.

Formula derived in the link requires slanting edges to meet and the same point. In case of trapezoidal footings this may or may not be the case.  Therefore result obtained using the formula given in the link do not match with the result obtained using the accurate formula.
