Hello everyone
If i modal cable in sap2000 using straight frame object in cable geometry then sap modal cable as Equivalent modulus of elaticity concept? |

Dear Er Mehta,
Your question isn't clear. The modulus of elasticity taken for the element will depend on the material assigned in SAP. |

In SAP software the two methods are used for cable modelling 1) cable as a frame element and 2) cable model as a catenary element.
These two methods are based on which concept or say which parameters are included to understand basic differences between these two methods.
And for Cable-Stayed bridge which method we use for cable modelling in SAP2000. |

Dear Er Mehta,
A catenary cable element would include geometric nonlinearity. For a cable stayed bridge, this may not be necessary as the cables do not deviate significantly from straight lines, and we can reduce the solution time by adopting a linear element. A catenary element would be most useful for suspension bridges or other such highly geometrically nonlinear structures. |

May not able to say anything on this aspect , but memory of early 1984 regarding attending a short term Course on Cable Stayed Bridges conducted by Continuing Education Deptt , Roorkee University has refreshed. The Course Director Prof Prem Krishna and other luminaries deliberated in 21 days Course.
At that time , the design of New Hoogly Bridge was being proof checked at Roorkee University which was going to be first CS Bridge in India. However Roorkee University had already designed and constructed a small CS Bridge across Ganga canal just behind University which was shown yo course participants.
Later with availability of softwares , many bridges were designed and constructed in Country. |
